Taking Back Your Day

I’ve been battling depression again these past few months. It’s so hard to get back on track and take your life back when you are down and depressed and overcome with anxiety.

I let depression take me over and I’ve been trying really hard lately to get back to being me. There ‘s been days where I know I need to get things done and I know what needs to be done but without seeing it written down I accomplish nothing. Well, maybe one or two tasks.

My friend had told me to just make a list and start there. I tried making lists but there was still something missing. Something that was keeping me from doing anything. I finally decided I was going to make my own “to-do” list. I was looking for something where not only could I write down what needed to be done, it also allows me to write the time I needed to do it and how long I should be working on one specific task before moving on to the next.

Sounds crazy that this is something that needed to be done but this is what is helping me get back to being me. Not only that when you have kids and a family I swear there is a never ending list of things that need to be done for them as well. Not that I really needed to write down every.single.daily task. But..I was pretty close to that point. I was close to the point that I needed to write down that I needed to pack the girls lunches or wash their hair, check their back packs, and what activity we had that evening.

Did you ever read the book Eat That Frog? That’s on my must read list. Eat That Frog is supposed to give you ideas on not procrastinating. Doing the tasks that you don’t want to do first. This way they are done and out of the way. Yes, I really need to read this!

I am the worst at procrastinating. I love this list because I can write everything down for the day and check it off. You feel much more accomplished if you see that you have checked multiple things of your to-do list. I’ve found that by doing this I feel better about the day that I’ve had. Seriously, I always always forget what I need to do. When I go to bed at night Im constantly thinking about the stuff I need to do the next day. It’s so much easier to wake up every day and clearly see what needs to be done.

You don’t have to use this just for your daily tasks. It’s also great for work too! I usually have one for what I need to do for the house/family that day and one for work. It’s been amazing and has taken a lot of stress out of my life. It’s also helped me keep a better work and life balance. Since I work from home I can easily get pretty wrapped up in work and let it take over. That’s what sent me into depression. I was never a social media person and then all of a sudden for a year and a half it consumed my life and I just couldn’t handle all the negativity that surrounds social media.

Don’t get me wrong, I love browsing Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook. But I was just tired of always being on my phone. I was on my phone at dinner when I should have been spending time with my family, pretty much from the time I woke up to the time that I went to sleep. You can see how that can really drain the life out of someone right?

Anyway..I’d love to know how you keep your life in balance and what type of planner/schedulers you use! Drop a comment below and share with me since I love checking out new things. Also be sure to subscribe to my email list to stay up to date with the latest posts 🙂
