Healthy Halloween Treats For a Classroom or Co-Workers
When Halloween comes around, it is time to make some seasonal and delicious meals and snacks for your family. It is possible to make fun meals during this holiday without having to pump your kids with sugar and unhealthy ingredients.
Since Halloween treats usually include a lot of sugar, chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter, I’m going to give you some ideas for healthier choices. We are going to create fun and delicious treats to give out to people to eat at work or bring to your child’s classroom that are healthy and even low-fat. Let’s dive into some healthy Halloween treats to consider making.
Chocolate-Dipped Fruit Ghosts
One great way to make healthier Halloween treats is to dip fruit in chocolate. Instead of just dipping any fruit, you want to go with fruit where the shape can make the treat look like a ghost. One good idea is to use bananas. Slice a banana in half and dip half of the banana in melted white chocolate. Use candy pieces to add a couple black eyes near the top, and you have yourself a healthy ghost treat. Strawberries are another fruit that can be used to dip in white chocolate and turn into a smaller ghost.
Dipping fruit is a fun and healthy activity. Your kids will love to help with this and they’ll enjoy eating it just as much. You won’t even have to feel guilty if they eat it all up!
Candy Corn Fruit
An even healthier treat that you can make for your co-workers for a Halloween party is to choose small fruit pieces that are the color of different parts of candy corn. Choose yellow and orange pieces like mandarin oranges, lemons, bananas, cantaloupe, and pineapple. For the white part of the candy corn, you can either use coconut or add toppings like whipped cream or vanilla yogurt. This is also a good option for a party for kids in their classroom since there is just fruit in the cup, but it is themed for Halloween.
Not only is this a cute and healthy idea but it’s also super fun! Use your creativity and you can come up with the best snack boards for Halloween. You may not want anyone to eat it because they are so darn cute to look at. We make these for every holiday. Give it a try and let me know how yours turns out.
Pumpkin-Shaped Carrots
If you plan on serving raw vegetables with a dip at the party, why not turn them into pumpkins? Seriously, how cute! Carrots are perfect for this when you start with the whole carrot.
First, shave the outside of the carrot, then make slices at the top to turn them into pumpkin shapes. Now cut the carrot into Ω inch or inch slices and you will have yourself some bite-sized pumpkins to serve with ranch dip. You can’t go wrong with cute little pumpkin carrots. I promise!
Cheese and Pretzel Broomsticks
You can also make some fun witch broomstick snacks for a kid’s or adult’s party for Halloween. This simply requires pretzel sticks and Mozzarella cheese, preferably string cheese pieces. Cut the string cheese into smaller pieces, then make slices in them to feather out one end and create the end of a broom. Attach a pretzel stick into the broom end and you will have fun witch broomsticks that are yummy, but low in fat and calories.
Super easy and always a hit! These aren’t limited to just Halloween either. You can make them for every holiday since they are always a hit.
Candy Apples
While it might seem like candy apples are in no way healthy, they actually can be, depending on how you make them. These make a great treat that encourages your kids to eat their fruit in a fun and festive way. Instead of just coating the apples in sugary caramel, consider instead dipping them in a low-fat and low-sugar candy, such as cinnamon candy. This allows you to give it a sweet taste and a pretty look, while also providing a seasonal quality.
If you really want to make these fun, you can dip them nuts, chopped up pretzels, roll them in anything that’s healthy. We made these at my kids birthday party a few years ago and everyone enjoyed them!
Chocolate-Dipped Fruit Again
Another way to use fruit in your Halloween-themed snack is to make chocolate-dipped fruit, not just the ghosts we just talked about. Sliced oranges are the perfect option since when combined with dark or milk chocolate, they make an orange and black appearance that is ideal for Halloween.
Just melt your chocolate, then dip a small part of the orange slice into the chocolate, and place on wax paper to harden. Only a small amount of chocolate is being used for this treat. You can pick up a few halloween themed cookie cutters and use them to cut the fruit into fun shapes then dip them in chocolate.
Jack O’ Lantern Grilled Cheese
If you are looking for a fun and healthy lunch or dinner for the kids, why not make them some grilled cheese? You can easily make this in a healthy way that also goes along with the Halloween theme. Start with whole wheat or whole grain bread, and cut one of the slices with a Jack O’ Lantern cookie cutter. Cook your grilled cheese sandwich as you normally would, and your kids have a fun Halloween-themed grilled cheese that is just a little bit healthier.
We love grilled cheese and its even better shaped into fun themes. Use those cookie cutters and make a bunch of mini halloween themed grilled cheese. Your kids will love you and think your the coolest mom ever.
Pumpkin Biscuits
Biscuits on their own can sometimes be a little bit high in fat, but if you reduce the amount of butter used and use canned pumpkin as a substitute, they still come out fluffy and flavorful, but with less saturated fat and calories. Plus, the pumpkin biscuits are seasonal and can include some spice for added seasoning. This keeps you from having to add more butter to them when they are done baking, since there is plenty of seasoning with them on their own.
These are so yummy! If you are the basic fall lover, PSL girl like me you will drool over these. T
he best part? You don’t have to feel guilty after eating them all. Well maybe a little 🙂
