5 Side Hustles To Make Extra Money

Are you looking to make extra money without sitting on a computer for hours? It’s so easy to take what you are good at or your passions and make some extra cash! Personally, I’m addicted to hustling. How could you not? You are doing something you enjoy and making money. Grab a coffee and let’s just dig right in…

Easy Side Hustle

Cleaning

Now a days its so easy to start your own cleaning business. If you are just looking to make a little extra money to start and will be cleaning for friends and family then there is no need to register as a business with your state. If you find yourself going into the homes of strangers then by all means go legit! Register a business name, get insurance, and go all out. The cost of doing this is still minimal. But you may be wondering how much money can you make cleaning someones home? I have a friend that I have cleaned their home a few times. The home is  a one bedroom, one bathroom, living room, kitchen, and laundry room. A smaller home I would say. The first time I cleaned the home it took me two hours top to bottom, a deep clean. I charged $150. Every time after that initial cleaning (about every two weeks) I would clean and it would only take about an hour and I charged $100. Not bad for an hour of my time right? Since this is a side hustle for you, then you can charge whatever you want. If it’s a bigger home with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms that will take you a few hours to clean- you should charge up to $225 or more. You could set an hourly rate but you would be burning yourself out. I have found that charging by the house is actually worth my time. I don’t clean often but if I am going to do it then it needs to be worth my time. Some people don’t like cleaning or have the time and that’s why they search for someone they trust to come in and clean their home for them. Me? I enjoy cleaning and find it therapeutic (crazy I know) but making money doing something that I like doing is a win win! There is so much you can factor in to how much you charge a client that can either raise your rates or lower them. But cleaning, this is something you can start today without having to put any more in to start!

Do you like to cook and bake?

Are you good at cooking or baking? Use your free time to do this work for someone. Do you know how many families or people are so busy they don’t have time to meal plan, grocery shop, and then cook? I know that I’m not the only family that is super busy during the school year. This is one thing that I have complained about in the past, that I just don’t have time to make dinner. You could charge by the meal or by the hour. Just make sure if you are buying the food items that you are more then covering the cost of the food plus your time. If you usually meal prep for yourself and or family why not just make extras? You can put an add out on facebook looking for clients. I actually am a very good baker and really love making cupcakes. I don’t love making cute themed cupcakes but I do love testing out different flavor combos. Chocolate Peanut Butter, Carmel Apple, Vanilla Strawberry, oh ya know I could go on forever… And guess what! People PAY me to make them cupcakes!! You can charge a decent price on cupcakes and if they are tasty people WILL pay for them… I’ve done weddings, birthdays, retirement, baby shower, bridal showers, you name it! I don’t advertise at all. These have all been word of mouth. Seriously, if you are good at something people want it. I have a friend who is a health and fitness fanatic. She posts on social media all the time about her healthy lifestyle… I have begged her to make my family healthy dinners and I would PAY her! She wasn’t interested. I’m telling you though if you can cook or bake people will throw their money at you. They want convenience and to know they are feeding their families healthy meals. People would much rather pay for healthy home cooked meals than paying to hit up a drive-thru every night. Heck! You could even make baby food and I know people would pay for that too!! Girl…get to work in the kitchen and make some extra cash!!

Photography

Do you enjoy taking pictures? You don’t even need a crazy expensive camera now a days to take good quality photos. Those iPhones take some killer photos. If you are creative and know how to snap a photo you can make extra money by selling those photos. Sell them as stock photos, sell them on Etsy, sell them on Shopify! Click, edit, sell. Whyyyyy would you not do this? It’s such an easy quick side hustle. There are tons of people looking for stock photos DAILY! Not only that but people want nice photos in their homes. If you take the photo and edit them then someone buys it, downloads it, and has it printed however they want to. All you need to do is turn your passions into cash… Watch a youtube video on editing and get started. This is so easy!

Dog Walking

First of all who doesn’t love a cute little puppy? You can’t see me raising my hand as I try and type this.. ha! People love love lovveeeeee their pets! I recently just discovered the love between a human and their pets (we got our first puppy) and my husband says I love the dog more then my kids (not true, I love them equally…most days). However, when we go back to real life my not so little pup pup is going to be left home. People will pay to have someone come let their dog out and walk them during the day! No joke! If you are a stay at home mom or just an animal lover what are you waiting for! Go walk someones dog and get PAID to do it. This may be the best side hustle ever. You could charge someone $20 for an hour. You take the sweet cuddly love out to go potty a quick walk and get paid. This really has no age limit so if your tween wants to make money this is also a good gig for them!

Child Care

Kids? Love them? This is one that is highly sought after right now. With parents going back to work and schools still not opened yet most people are looking for child care. That being said you really need to check your states laws on home child care (if you are planning to bring kids into your home). Where I live you can only watch two children in your home without being a licensed child care provider. I have two kids of my own which do not count in watching two extra. If I wanted to care for more then two I would have to go through the licensing process which is a lot of work. You can make a good amount of extra money just watching two kids though. Most day care facilities charge unto $250 a week depending on the age of the child. If you are providing food when watching kids all day be sure to factor this into your pricing. If you would rather just help some friends out by watching their kids here and there you could charge an hourly rate. This would be good for a stay at home mom. Especially if kids will only be brought back to school one to two days a week, parents will be looking for someone to supervise their kids the three other days they are not in-person at school. This could bring in a good amount of extra cash if you are willing to let others into your home with the “new normal”. If you have kids of your own you could easily watch your friends kids who will be doing the same schooling as your own (I’m a 99% sure this would help a ton with your own remote schooling) they would be able to help each other out with questions and have a bit of social interaction.

I have personally made extra money doing all of these! Maybe because I love baking, taking pictures, kids, and cleaning (when my family isn’t around to make a mess behind me). Sometimes it is hard for me to find time to do some of these but I honestly have done them all. I have enjoyed them and made a lot of money doing each one. What side hustles have you tried? I’d love to hear about the different things you have tried doing to make extra money!
